Student to work a 3 or 4 hour afternoon shifts. Responsibilities of
light barn work in exchange for private dressage lessons.
(feeding night hay & grain, watering, turn-out, cleaning
tack, etc.)

Time Working Student Positions at Orion Dressage Sporthorses ~
Orion
Dressage Sporthorses has an ongoing program for working students. This
position is ideal for an aspiring dressage rider who wants to learn
the art of classical dressage. We are very committed to providing an
opportunity for the real education of dressage riders. A working student
position at Orion offers complete submersion and an intense learning
environment in order to advance your riding and horsemanship skills
at an accelerated rate. The care of the horses is most important to
us here at Orion. This means routines are created that best serve the
horses, not the people.
Responsibilities
Include:
Assisting head trainer with horses on a daily basis: grooming, tacking/un-tacking,
prepare for and groom at shows, blanketing/turn-out care, cleaning tack
and general assistance. Barn duties include: turn-out, occasionally
a light pick on stalls, feeding/watering, general/special care as instructed,
total of 25 stalls on the property.

Riding lessons with FEI competitor / trainer on horses of various levels
(Training - F.E.I.), opportunities to show during season.
Education
Includes:
In addition to the daily hands-on experience and riding instruction
opportunities, other concepts that concern horsemanship are covered
during a session, for example: stable management concepts, daily care
of performance horses, basic first aid and rehabilitation care, feeding
and supplementation principles, training concepts, safety routines and
the process of buying and selling dressage horses. Some horse experience
is preferred but we will train beginners, a good attitude and work ethic
is most valuable. There is a professional farrier on the premises and
there will opportunities to observe proper shoeing concepts for performance
horses. This is an excellent learning experience for an aspiring rider
to train in an intensive yet very rewarding environment.
